Frequently Asked Questions

I'm just looking for a web designer, can you recommend one?

We deal with a number of top quality web design outfits. If you would like us to recommend a web design company then please get in touch.

How much does Colony cost to implement?

Prices for Colony start at £2,500; however this does not include design, hosting or on-going support and maintenance.

If you require a quotation for Colony then please get in touch, and we will put you in touch with a Colony reseller who will be able to provide an exact quotation.

Can I sell Colony?

Companies may apply for partnership by completing the application form.

Can I write my own modules for Colony?

Yes. Once the appropriate documentation is completed we can provide you will full API documentation and if you require training to allow you to write your own modules.

Once you have written your module, and after we've tested it we will also be happy to notify other Colony resellers of your work so you may sell it on.

Can I upgrade my Colony?

We are constantly writting minor upgrades and features that can be plugged into Colony. As part of your support contract these updates are made available to your reseller.

Key version upgrades are also available. However they will be charged for over and above your support contract.

What are sxForms?

sxForms are an advanced way of creating forms and reports for websites. Their public release is currently being worked on by colleagues of ours in Red Ant Development and is expected within the next month or so.

sxForms allow all the data within Colony to be extensible, which means each page or module can be tailored to your exact requirements without the need for a rewrite.

sxForms also support validation, uniform design, accessibility and graceful failover for older browsers.

Why isn't Colony open source?

We wish to retain full control over Colony so that we can support our resellers and users to the optimum. At present we are unaware of an open source method that would allow us to do so.

We are however considering moving into an open API environment where all of our standards are available.

How do I host Colony?

We are able to provide annual hosting, support and maintenance contracts to our partners removing the technical headache.

Do I need to be a programmer to use Colony?

Quite simply no, if you are an end user then one of our partners would deal with this on your behalf. If you wish to partner with us the only level of programming that is required is to place your templates into the Colony system. If you do not feel confident integrating these our developers can do so for a fixed charge.
